BRAIN TUMOUR AWARENESS

We are constantly trying to raise awareness of brain tumours and there are clearly many issues to be addressed:- research on the causes and treatment of brain tumours, on awareness both among medical professionals and among the wider public and also on providing support networks.

So, we are delighted to be able to tell you that John Bercow, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development has successfully applied for an adjournment debate to raise the issues of the brain tumour community and to seek to establish a screening programme. This will take place on Monday 26th April at the close of session - 10pm.

Hammer Out has joined forces with other Brain Tumour charities across the UK who are also meeting up with their local MP's as well as writing to other MP's in their region.

If you have access to parliamentary TV (available on Freeview among others), you will be able to watch the debate live. We expect John Bercow will be given 15 minutes to present the issues and for the Minister to take 15 minutes to respond.

I am pleased to report that Steve Webb MP Northavon has pledged his full support in what Hammer Out is trying to achieve. He has confirmed his support of the adjournment debate in parliament on 26th April and he has also written to the Secretary of State for Health to take up these issues with him.

We will continue to update you.
